Worship

The Assembly’s three main services of worship will be celebrated at the Stuttgart Collegiate Church (Stiftskirche), the main church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Württemberg. Almost completely destroyed in World War II, it was rebuilt in the 1950s and soberly baptized the Good Friday church as a place of remembrance and repentance.

When the church was renovated between 1999 and 2003, the interior was reconfigured and the emphasis was placed on the Easter experience. The new altar—named the “light grotto”—is the central element of the worship area. When the global Lutheran communion gathers before this altar in July 2010 and shares bread and wine, it will bear living witness to Jesus Christ as the Light of the World.

Morning and evening services will take place in the “Alte Reithalle.” Now part of the Hotel Maritim complex, it was built in 1885 and originally served as an auction place for horses. The international worship group has come up with many spontaneous, creative ideas for organizing these worship services.

Several congregations in the Stuttgart area are inviting participants on Sunday, 25 July to worship together and to become acquainted.
