Swazi Women’s Beadwork Gift to LWF Assembly

A women’s group from Swaziland will share some of their beadwork products with participants in the Stuttgart Assembly.

Traditional Swazi beadwork integrates social values, colors and combinations, which are also found in modern beadwork.

The group of 18 women, working under the supervision of Authilia Nxumalo, embedded the LWF Eleventh Assembly logo onto decorative beadwork to form a lapel pin. It takes about one hour to make each carefully hand-crafted pin.

On big projects such as the LWF assembly consignment, the women make the pins from their homes in between other household responsibilities, a flexible schedule which allows them to maximize on their working time.

Thanks to the project, run in the capital Mbabane and in Manzini, the women have formed a microfinance cooperative that helps them sell their products. The proceeds are allocated both to the women and groups of orphaned and vulnerable children whom they support.
