LWF shocked and saddened by deaths at “Love Parade,” Duisburg

Delegates pray for consolation for bereaved, swift recovery for injured

STUTTGART, Germany, 26 July 2010 – In a declaration adopted today, the Eleventh Assembly of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) expressed “profound sympathy” to the families of those who died on 24 July in Duisburg at the entrance to the “Love Parade” dance and music festival.

In the declaration, Assembly delegates assured the survivors and their families of their prayers, saying, “We continue to pray for the consolation of the bereaved families of those who died, and for the swift recovery of those who were injured – physically and psychologically – in Duisburg.”

The text mentions the support of the members of the Assembly to not only the victims in the incident, but also to those who are caring for them. The declaration ends with the hope that “the tragic lessons of that day will be studied and learned from, so that future tragedies might be avoided.”

Duisburg is approximately 350 kilometers from Stuttgart, where the Assembly is meeting. (151 words)
